One meter is 3.28084 feet. Everyone remembers “about 3.28” until they’re cutting lumber or ordering glass.

I keep a converter open when plans mix SI drawings with US suppliers. The meter to feet calculator is enough for length. Area and volume are separate traps—don’t convert m² by multiplying the feet conversion twice in your head at 11 p.m.

Where rounding bites

A simple rule

Convert with full precision, then round in the unit you’ll cut or order—not before. If a plan says 1.25 m, convert 1.25, then decide whether your saw tape wants 4'1-1/4" or decimal feet.

And label the unit on the sketch. Half the shop mistakes I’ve seen were two people reading the same number in different systems.
